Opened in 1999, ShanghaiMart is the first permanent international trade mart in China and the largest in Asia, comprised of three complimentary venues encompassing 280,000 m2 as the Mart, Expo and Office Tower. The Mart is about 200,000 m2 for companies wishing to establish year round product showcases, the Expo of 37,000 m2 for incoming exhibitions, self-owned fairs and the Tower of 42,000 m2 providing a multi-storey commercial office space for international companies and consulates. There are 49 buying offices in ShanghaiMart with $ 22 billion direct sourcing from China in 2007 including Wal-Mart, Carrefour & C & A, more than 200 oversea invested sourcing companies have the cooperation relationship with ShanghaiMart, such as H & M, JC Penny, Sears and Li & Fung.
